All\nthree organizations have long been involved in researching\nand challenging EU and Member\nStates\u2019s policies externalization of borders\nand of the right to asylum. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nconference gathered Tunisian, Libyan, Italian and European\nactivists and scholars, determined\nto combat externalization policies and\ntheir effects, i.e. depriving\nthousands of migrants trapped in Libya, Tunisia and others African\ncountries of their right to seek asylum in\nEurope, to move freely and leave their\ncountry, and not to be exposed to human\nrights violations. The closure of the Libyan route\nin 2017 would not have been possible\nwithout an intense cooperation\nbetween European and North African countries which led, among\nother things, to conclude international agreements, strengthen border\ncontrols, provide economic and political support to Libya, delegate\nrelief and refoulements at sea to the Libyan coastguard, criminalize\nrescue activities by non-governmental organizations. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants\nto the Tunis conference agreed that the\ncomplex international dimension of the problem requires an equally\ninternational response from civil society through a renewed and\ncloser mutual collaboration based on an equal relationship and mutual\ntrust. Organizations can provide added\nvalue to each other in a number of forms,\nincluding sharing information and knowledge about their\nrespective countries; using each\norganization\u2019s legal, language\nand cultural skills; learning from\neach other\u2019s professional experience in\nspecific fields;\nsharing views on\nstrategies for joint litigation\nactions before European, African and international judicial\nbodies.
